Final Garments: Shorts and Sports Top
The first two garments to be completed for this project were my base layers, shorts and top. These didn't take too long to get sorted, apart from changing the flat lock seam machine and cover seam to yellow. I wanted my base layers to reflect the David Hockney colours and palette, as I thought it would unusual to have for tennis layers. I'm super happy with the effect of the colours together; the contrast of the dusty pink and aquamarina, the yellow cover seam and flat seam, and the baby pink mesh. It's interesting to see very vibrant and clashing
colours working well in small doses and help shape the body in a flattering way.
I had done some changes to the final piece after testing out the toiles:
- Extended the waistband by 5cm to cover the stomach
- Added a phone pocket at the front of the shorts waist band
- Reduced the size of the top by 1cm
I'm happy with the shorts and top that I have created, as they give compression where its needed and support these areas closely for tennis and other daily activities. I think its quite different for tennis and has really push my colour aesthetic this time. There are some things that I would change:
- Reduce the sleeves to fit the arms
- Make sure the scubas are of similar weight-
This is due to the aquamarina being lighter than the dusty pink. It was
easier to twist and effect the whole garment annoyingly.
