Toile 1- Tennis Shorts
The first toile that I made was the tennis shorts. Using a graded down legging block pattern, I decided where I wanted my shorts to be. I wanted them to be longer for comfort when wearing them and have the multi-purpose (so can be worn at the gym , etc).
What was Changed from Block?:
- Side panel was added with pocket (double layering)
- Waist band of 4cm added
- Diagonal Panel around the bottom.
Where the panels are on the garments, contours the leg muscle and looks aesthetically pleasing. The pocket is position on the side panel so it's easily accessible. In addition, I used a good scuba fabric (which is
old scraps from my sisters graduate collection), which gave a good amount of compression for the muscles. Once I used this, I knew this would be the best fabric choice for my base layers (e.g shorts and sports bra). However, when I bend down I could feel the back fall with me. This is something that needs to be changed, due to a tennis player is always picking up the ball or crouching down when preparing to receive a serve.
What needs changing?:
- Waistband needs to be higher
- More definite tennis ball pocket and make it slightly higher?
- Use the cover seam to practise the finished piece
- Centre Back seam needs more of a curve to reduce it falling down when squatting.
- Reduce the length slightly, just to see what the difference is when playing.
