Toile 1
I started with the jacket block, as I knew that the all of it should match up. Things that I changed from the block:
- Removed the contour darts on the front and back panel.
- Added a shawl collar so create the blazer like look, without it being an obvious blazer collar.
- Extended the centre front at the bottom to make it double breasted.
- Removed the curved side seam from front and back panel to make it less shaped and more boxy.
I kept the sleeves the same, as I wanted to see what shape it would create or if it would
help with the movements of the arm. In addition I kept the dart in the armhole, as I thought it would look more flattering at the top of the blazer, as I don't want it to look ridiculously oversized.
I overlocked all the seams quickly as this was a toile just to see what the shape would look like on a person, and whether it would be flattering. Obviously when it comes to the actually garment it will be properly made.
Things I will adapt and take forward from this toile:
- Reduce the length of the blazer
- Increase the height of where the double breasted square will start
- Decide where to put the pockets on the body and what size they should be
- Reduce the sleeve length as they're slightly longer on me than the model
Things I am going to keep from this toile:
- The size of the shawl collar and how much it decreased by to the break point.
- The sleeve being two panels
- The style of the arm hole being a set in sleeve
Overall, there are some changes I need to make with the shape of the jacket but its generally the size I want it to be. I am keeping the shawl collar as I think its more minimal and not as formal and I will be adding pockets to the side of the garment.
