Features of a Blazer
I thought it would be interesting to find out what are the key features of a blazer according to research. This may affect how I design mine to look, as I may keep more feature then I previously had thought.
This is the list of what makes a blazers:
A solid colour (usually dark or navy)
A high quality fabric. This is mainly from worsted wool, hopsack or wool flannel (as seen in previous blog)
Often features a contrasting button colour such as gold or silver
Minimal design
Single or double-breasted style
Peak lapels (for double-breasted blazers)
Is a standalone piece and not part of an ensemble
Can be worn with jeans, a T-shirt and trainers
It also comes in two different fits:
Obviously these characteristics don't need to be stuck to, as they most definitely won't be if I'm designing it. I do think I will keep with the regular fit, as I want it to be oversized and hang off me in a sophisticated way. In addition, I will keep most of the blazer features, such as the flap pockets and minimal design, but I want to add a twist to it.
